- 1Use preparation time wisely. Read questions, underline keywords, and predict the type of answer (name, number, date, etc.) before audio starts.
- 2Follow the order. Answers always appear in question order — never jump ahead.
- 3Watch for paraphrasing. The audio almost never uses the exact words from the question. Listen for synonyms.
- 4Spelling counts. Write answers correctly — wrong spelling = wrong answer.
- 5Don't leave blanks. Always guess. Wrong answers don't subtract marks.
- 6Watch word limits. "Write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS" — strictly follow this.
- 7Distractor awareness. Speakers often change their mind — the second answer is usually correct.
- 8Transfer answers carefully. You have 10 minutes to transfer. Check spelling, grammar, word count.
- 9Practise daily. Use BBC, TED Talks, podcasts to train your ear to natural English speed.
- 10Section 4 = hardest. It has no break. Focus fully and don't panic if you miss something.

Urban Agriculture and Food Security
Urban agriculture — the practice of cultivating, processing, and distributing food in or around urban areas — has experienced a remarkable resurgence in recent decades. Once dismissed as a relic of wartime necessity, it is now celebrated as a solution to multiple urban challenges, from food insecurity to environmental sustainability.
Cities across the world, from Detroit to Singapore, have embraced rooftop gardens, community allotments, and vertical farming facilities. Proponents argue that these initiatives can significantly reduce "food miles" — the distance food travels from farm to consumer — thereby lowering carbon emissions associated with transportation.
However, critics point out that urban agriculture cannot realistically feed entire city populations. Land constraints, soil contamination in industrial zones, and the high cost of water in urban environments all pose significant barriers. A 2019 study found that even the most optimistic scenarios suggest urban farms could supply only 10% of a city's vegetable needs.
Despite these limitations, the social benefits of urban agriculture are well-documented. Community gardens have been shown to reduce social isolation, improve mental health outcomes, and foster a sense of neighbourhood identity. In this light, urban agriculture may be valued less for its caloric contribution and more for its role in building resilient, connected communities.
