The Reading paper gives you sixty minutes for three passages and forty questions, and unlike Listening there is no extra time at the end to transfer answers. Most candidates who run out of time are not slow readers. They are reading every word of every passage, which the test never asks them to do.

Skimming means reading quickly for the general idea. You look at the title, any subheadings, and the first sentence of each paragraph, and you build a rough map of where the passage goes. Two or three minutes of skimming tells you that paragraph C is about costs and paragraph F is about the future, so when a question asks about costs you know where to look.
Skimming মানে দ্রুত মূল ধারণা নেওয়া: title, subheading আর প্রতিটি paragraph-এর প্রথম বাক্য দেখে passage-এর একটা ম্যাপ তৈরি করুন, যাতে পরে কোথায় খুঁজবেন বুঝতে পারেন।
Scanning is different. You are not trying to understand, you are searching for a specific target: a name, a date, a number, a technical term. Your eyes move fast across the text looking for the shape of that one item. Numbers and capital letters are the easiest targets because they stand out from ordinary text.
Scanning হলো নির্দিষ্ট কিছু খোঁজা, যেমন নাম, তারিখ, সংখ্যা বা technical term। সংখ্যা আর capital letter সবচেয়ে সহজে চোখে পড়ে।
Question types tell you which to use. Matching Headings and questions about the writer's overall purpose need skimming, because they depend on main ideas. Sentence completion, short answers and anything containing a proper noun or a figure are scanning tasks, because the answer sits in one precise place.

Once scanning has found the right place, slow right down. This is where careful reading belongs — a few sentences, read closely, to confirm the answer. The skill is not reading fast all the time. It is reading fast to find the place, then reading slowly where the marks are.
Scanning দিয়ে সঠিক জায়গা পেলে গতি কমিয়ে কয়েকটি বাক্য মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড়ে উত্তর নিশ্চিত করুন। জায়গা খুঁজতে দ্রুত, নম্বর পেতে ধীরে পড়ুন।
Practise the two separately before combining them. Take a passage and give yourself ninety seconds to skim it, then write one line per paragraph from memory. When that feels comfortable, practise scanning by timing how long it takes to find five specific names or numbers. Combined, the two skills are what make sixty minutes enough.
